Overdose deaths from both opioid prescriptions and heroin hit record levels in 2014. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new data detailing the tragic and alarming increase in overdose deaths across the United States. More than 47,000 people died from opioid overdose in 2014, an unacceptable 14% increase over just one year. Deaths from heroin overdose tripled since 2010. Unfortunately, my home state of Ohio is one of the five states with the highest rates of drug overdose deaths in the nation.
