Cosponsor Bipartisan Bill to Apply Terrorist Sanctions to Iran’s Iraqi Proxies

Last weekend, Iraq held historic parliamentary elections to determine its future following the costly war with ISIS. The results are still being tallied but it appears the bloc of Iranian-backed militia groups (known as the Fatah Alliance) gained the second
most amount of votes. Of this group, the notorious Iranian proxy As-Saib Ahl Al-Haq (AAH), which previously only held one parliamentary seat, picked up twelve additional seats in the Iraqi Parliament. This is a troubling development given the group’s past

Cosponsor Bipartisan Bill to Apply Terrorist Sanctions to Iran’s Iraqi Proxies

With terrorist sanctions now applied to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), it’s high time to apply the same penalties to Tehran’s proxies in Iraq and Syria. Two proxies in particular, As-Saib Ahl Al-Haq (AAH) and Harakat Hizballah Al-Nujaba,
have become the leading instruments for Iran’s regional strategy. Targeting these groups will be one additional step towards countering Iran’s expansionism and signaling to our Iraqi partners that it must not permit its citizens to be used as pawns by the
IRGC to destabilize and threaten our allies. We urge you to cosponsor H.R. 4238 The Iranian Proxies Terrorist Sanctions Act of 2017.

There is no better time to encourage the Saudi leadership to accomplish a goal they have long committed to: completely reforming its educational curriculum to remove any intolerant content that teaches discrimination and hate.
