Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation to commemorate International Day of Rural Women, in recognition of women farmers around the world. According to the U.N., rural women make up over one quarter of the total world population and represent approximately
43 percent of the agricultural labor force. They play a critical role in agricultural productivity, in terms of food security and economic stability. Women serve as the bedrock of society, feed their families, neighbors, and countrymen, and are important role
models for younger generations. Despite their critical role, they face considerable societal limitations and constraints in their access to resources. Food security and economic stability around the world are central to the interests of the United States.
