In light of recent comments by White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, that the president may use an executive order to unilaterally close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and statements by two White House advisers that he has the constitutional authority to do so, viewed in the context of the 2014 release of five Taliban members in exchange for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl without Congressional approval. I have introduced House Resolution 537, which makes it clear that any action by the President to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp is both illegal and unconstitutional and in opposition to our national security interests.
