DEADLINE TODAY 2PM: Original Cosponsors for Employ Young Americans Now Act

Despite the nation’s progress on job creation, America’s youngest workers continue to struggle with an unemployment rate that is twice as high
as the rate for the general population.  For young high school graduates, the unemployment rate is 17.9 percent, while the underemployment rate is a shocking 33.7 percent—more than 10 points higher than before the Great Recession.  Unemployment and underemployment
means anxiety, poverty, and broken dreams for young people.  The consequences of this crisis ripple throughout our economy—causing lasting
scars for wages and productivity, eroding our tax base and reducing government revenue, while forcing increased spending on social services and criminal justice. 
The Employ Young Americans Now Act will provide $5.5 billion in immediate funding to states and localities to employ 1 million young Americans between the ages
of 16 and 24, and provide job training to hundreds of thousands of young Americans.
