Since its enactment, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has made enormous progress in lowering the uninsured rate among young Americans. In 2010, 29 percent of young adults were uninsured; today, that rate has dropped by half, to 14.5 percent. Recently, however,
the Trump Administration has waged war against the ACA: slashing enrollment outreach budgets, promulgating short-term junk insurance plans, and making it harder for Americans – young and old – to get covered. Despite the progress that has been made, young
Americans between the ages of 19 and 34 remain the age group with the highest uninsured rate.
