I spent the week back in the district talking with my constituents and especially to veterans. I have a Veterans Advisory Committee that I consult with from time to time, consisting of military retirees from Generals to enlisted men from all branches of service, including National Guard and Coast Guard. Neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, autism, epilepsy, schizophrenia, depression, and traumatic brain injury, have exacted a tremendous toll on our society. Too many of our brave veterans returning from the battlefield have been plagued with these disorders. Despite great scientific strides made in neuroscience research, the underlying causes of these conditions remain unsolved. For true breakthroughs to occur, researchers require additional data to better treat these calamities.

Sign letter to Secretary McDonald on constituent advocate access to electronic claims files

Many of your bosses have been involved with VA regarding constituent advocate access to veterans’ electronic claims files. My boss, Rep. Ted Yoho, and Rep. Patrick Murphy are leading a bi-partisan follow up letter to Secretary McDonald asking for some clarification on a few of VA’s claims, progress that has been made on expanding veterans’ on-line self-service capabilities, and a status update on the proposed user-centered design sessions.
