Oppose Reckless and Wasteful H.R. 3053, the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2017

As members of the Nevada delegation, we strongly urge you to oppose this reckless, controversial bill as it blatantly ignores the concerns of Nevadans who do not wish to see the federal government turn our state into a dumping ground for nuclear waste from
other states. It also threatens the health and safety of Americans from 329 congressional districts across the country, located in 44 states and D.C., where the radioactive waste will be forced to travel through by train or highway.

Cosponsor H.R. 4227 Vehicular Terrorism Prevention Act

In light of recent events in New York City and around the world, I would like to bring to your attention important legislation that I introduced that would direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to examine what actions the Department is undertaking to
combat the threat of vehicular terrorism and submit a report to Congress on its findings and recommendations.  This follows up the work I did during the consideration of the House’s appropriations package.

TSA Full Funding Critical to Aviation Security: Cosponsor H.R. 2514, the FASTER Act

Today, the threats to aviation are diverse and significant. Presently, there is great interest in system-wide deployment of Computed Tomography (CT) screening equipment to passenger security checkpoints, a technology widely-viewed as significantly enhancing
the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) threat detection capability. Last week, TSA Administrator David Pekoske testified before the House Committee on Homeland Security that TSA could “hypothetically” deploy CT throughout the aviation security
system. When probed about why TSA views such deployment as hypothetical, Administrator Pekoske explained that it is “hypothetical due to funding.”
