Medicaid is a means-tested entitlement program that finances the delivery of primary and acute medical services as well as long-term services and supports. Medicaid is jointly funded by the federal government and the states.
The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA; P.L. 108-173) requires the Medicare Board of Trustees to provide in its annual reports an expanded analysis of Medicare expenditures and revenues (§801 of the MMA).
I urge you to join me in protecting access to critical health care services for disabled, elderly, and low-income individuals by cosponsoring the Ensuring Medicaid and Medicare Access to Providers Act (H.R. 5098). I recently introduced this legislation to provide a 2-year reprieve from Obamacare’s employer mandate for businesses that provide services through Medicare or Medicaid.
The Physician Payment Sunshine Act was intended to give transparency with regard to payments and other financial transfers of value to physicians. Congress outlined 12 specific exclusions from the reporting requirement to ensure that medical practice and patient care would not be harmed.
Please join us in urging the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator, Marilyn Tavenner, to delay the implementation of new codes which could result in significantly decreased patient access to low-cost, quality radiation treatment, especially for breast and prostate cancer patients.
For too long, Congress has failed to fix the broken Medicare sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula used to set reimbursement rates for physicians and other health care providers. With each “doc fix” cliff, health care providers are threatened with drastic cuts to their reimbursement rates and seniors risk losing access to their doctors. This insecurity is inexcusable and Congress can put an end to it now.
