Advanced engineering skills are critical for students to meet our nation’s evolving manufacturing demands. Between 2000 and 2009, the United States lost 6 million manufacturing jobs. Since January 2010 there have been 500,000 new manufacturing jobs, but more work needs to be done. In order to address the training needs of workers and manufacturers, we need a sustained focus on preparing our students for careers in innovation and manufacturing.
