Co-Sponsor Representative Posey’s Stop the Revolving Door in Washington Act

September 18, 2017

One thing is clear from the recent election: Americans are fed up with business as usual in Washington. Last year, we watched as President Trump animated his supporters and won the Presidency in part with his promise to “drain the swamp.” In that spirit,
I introduced legislation earlier this Congress that would take an important step toward fulfilling this promise.

Co-sponsor Representative Posey’s End the Congressional Revolving Door Act

September 18, 2017

As you know, many of today’s lobbyists got their start as elected Members or staff on Capitol Hill. I believe that a part of restoring trust in our institutions and making sure that those working on legislation have no other loyalties begins by closing
this revolving door.

Become an Original Cosponsor – CAMPUS HATE Crimes Act

September 18, 2017

I am writing to request you co-sponsor the Creating Accountability Measures Protecting University Students Historically Abused, Threatened, and Exposed to Crimes (CAMPUS HATE Crimes) Act of 2017.  Since the beginning of the 2016 academic
school year, there has been an unprecedented spike in racist and hate-based activity on college campuses. Hate watch groups have tracked over 150 incidents on college campuses in 33 states.

Briefing on Holding Border Officials Accountable for their Mistreatment of Asylum Seekers and Deportees

September 18, 2017

By now you should have received the following invitation to attend a briefing regarding asylum seekers at our Southern Border. While there has been a lot of attention on the Trump Administration’s desire to build a border wall there have been many significant
developments related to Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) treatment of migrants to our Southern Border.

H.R. 2147, Veterans Treatment Court Improvement Act

September 18, 2017

While many veterans successfully readjust and transition back to civilian life after their military service, unfortunately, some do not.  Too often, those who do not successfully adjust are caught up in the criminal justice system – often due to undiagnosed
or untreated issues these veterans face related to their military service. These veterans have served our nation and I believe that whenever possible, we as a nation should find ways to help them rehabilitate themselves as they navigate the criminal justice
system. This is why I invite you to cosponsor H.R. 2147, the Veterans Treatment Court Improvement Act.

Sign Letter to Secretary DeVos Urging Her to Reconsider Rescinding Title IX Guidance

September 15, 2017

Last week Secretary DeVos announced she would be revoking or rescinding university Title IX guidance.  Rewriting this key Title IX guidance is a huge step in the wrong direction .  We cannot afford to cede the advances made in recent years, and we must send
a message to survivors across the country that we will do all in our power to keep these important guidelines in place.  Protecting young people from sexual and dating violence is a priority for all of us and policy should mirror our priorities.
