Cosponsor the Hmong and Lao Refugee Deportation Prohibition Act

April 27, 2020

I have introduced the Hmong and Lao Refugee Deportation Prohibition Act of 2020
(H.R.6034) to stop the Trump administration from deporting individuals with Final Orders for Removal to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao P.D.R) for 72 months and have their immigration cases reassessed. The Trump administration is
currently negotiating with the Lao P.D.R on a repatriation agreement that would affect more than 4,700 individuals nationwide. The Lao P.D.R. is a communist state that does not currently have an official deportation agreement with the U.S. or extradition treaty.
Since 1975, nearly 200,000 refugees from the Lao P.D.R, including persons of Hmong, Lao, Khmu, and Mien or Yao descent, have been resettled in the U.S. Most fought or assisted U.S. forces during the Vietnam War at great personal cost, including the loss of
their homeland. It is a betrayal of trust and honor for the U.S. to deport the Hmong and Lao veterans and/or their family members who aided U.S. forces and CIA in the war in Indochina.

Vietnamese Boat People – 45th Commemoration of the Fall of Saigon

April 27, 2020

Please join me in recognizing the historical significance and the heroic struggles and sacrifices of the Vietnamese people who fled their war-torn country by boat in search for freedom and democracy. The Fall of Saigon in 1975 marked the end of the Vietnam
war, many Vietnamese civilians feared for their lives under the new Vietnamese regime, ergo they decided to take a chance and seek a better life elsewhere. Many of these individuals came to the United States and have thrived here. We have an estimated 1,700,000
Vietnamese Americans currently living in the United States. This resolution aims to recognize their hardships, sacrifice, and heroism.

April 24, 2020

Do you think of your district as a manufacturing district?  Or do you consider yours a farm/agricultural-centered district?  The reality is that every congressional district has a minimum of 65% jobs in the services sector.  In order to speak to the majority
of workers in your congressional district you need to speak to the opportunities and challenges faced by the services sector.  In fact, success in the manufacturing and agriculture sectors are integrated with services and depend on them to get to markets and
grow.
