URGE DHS TO KEEP VAPE SHOPS OFF ESSENTIAL BUSINESS LIST DURING COVID-19!

April 28, 2020

Over the past several weeks we have seen reports of Vape shops defying state laws to close their businesses during this COVID-19 quarantine, and lobbying the Administration to be considered essential businesses under the Department of Homeland Security official
guidance.  Please join me in sending a letter to the DHS Acting Secretary requesting that vape shops not be included on the “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce” advisory list, and that as we build plans to re-open our communities, vape shops not be
prioritized for opening ahead of other non-essential business establishments.

Support Caregivers and Home Care Infrastructure During COVID-19

April 28, 2020

Please join me in sending a letter to Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader McCarthy requesting the next relief bill establish “Family Care” for essential workers and vulnerable family caregivers.  The COVID-19 pandemic has put our public health
and collective wellbeing at risk in newly urgent ways.  As schools, child care programs, and community centers for seniors and people with disabilities are closed – and as hospitals and makeshift care centers exceed capacity – the need for care at home has
increased with the need to reduce potential exposure to coronavirus.  Now more than ever, caregivers are under extra pressure to work and care for families at home.

Families and screen-time use during the time of COVID-19

April 28, 2020

With more than 95% of Americans under stay-at-home instructions in the COVID-19 pandemic, most schools and families have turned to on-line technology to continue children’s education and also to maintain broader social and family connections. But, as computers
assume an ever more central role in work, play, school and social life, parents are eager to help their children find the right balance between screen time and other activities and to understand both the promise and perils of an on-line childhood. This is
a matter of pressing importance in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please join us in cosponsoring H.R. 1367, the Children and Media Research Advancement Act (CAMRA Act), bipartisan and bicameral legislation that will help us understand how the dramatic
changes in technology and media are affecting children’s physical and mental development.

Letter to IRS on Rural Access to Stimulus

April 28, 2020

Please join me in sending a letter to IRS Commissioner Rettig and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin about the issues rural and low-income constituents face in accessing resources only available on IRS.gov. In my district, as is the case across the country, there
is poor to no broadband access in some areas. Tools such as the “Get My Payment” option on IRS.gov are only available online with no alternative for those without an internet connection. This means my rural constituents are unable to track their IRS economic
impact payments or update their banking and address information to ensure their stimulus payments reach them.
