As you may know, a New York Times report this week unearthed, through a Freedom of Information Act request, a letter from Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney to the Director of the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) regarding
the office’s request for copies of all ethics waivers issued by the executive branch. The letter urges OGE to “stay” their request and expresses doubt over OGE’s authority. OGE issued the request in response to the White House failing to disclose waivers publicly,
with reports of high-ranking officials receiving secret waivers in violation of ethics rules.
