Improve GI Bill Education Benefits for the Newest Generation of Veterans – Join over 85 bipartisan Co-Sponsors

As thousands of servicemembers continue to make their transition from active duty to civilian life, I believe one of the best ways to ensure a seamless transition is to provide them access to their earned education benefits that will help educate or train
them for jobs in the civilian sector.  While the current Post 9/11 GI Bill is already a generous benefit, we need to make necessary improvements to ensure its future prosperity and provide new benefits for the newest generation of veterans, survivors, and
dependents.  This bipartisan and bicameral package includes over 28 provisions from 17 bills that have already been introduced by our colleagues in the House. These provisions have been proposed and prioritized by veterans groups and the bill is budget
neutral. Major provisions of the bill would:

Cosponsor the Student Loan Interest Deduction Act to Lighten the Weight of Student Debt

Student loan debt in the United States has become a $1.3 trillion crisis affecting more than 44 million Americans. The average class of 2015 graduate left school with approximately $35,000 in student loan debt. MarketWatch estimates that the outstanding
balance of student loans within the United States grows by about $2,726.27 every second.
