DEADLINE TODAY 2PM: Original Cosponsors for Employ Young Americans Now Act

Despite the nation’s progress on job creation, America’s youngest workers continue to struggle with an unemployment rate that is twice as high
as the rate for the general population.  For young high school graduates, the unemployment rate is 17.9 percent, while the underemployment rate is a shocking 33.7 percent—more than 10 points higher than before the Great Recession.  Unemployment and underemployment
means anxiety, poverty, and broken dreams for young people.  The consequences of this crisis ripple throughout our economy—causing lasting
scars for wages and productivity, eroding our tax base and reducing government revenue, while forcing increased spending on social services and criminal justice.

Cosponsor H.R. 122: Original Living American Wage (LAW) Act of 2017

I am writing to invite you to cosponsor H.R. 122 the Original Living American Wage Act (LAW) Act of 2017.  H.R. 122 would link the minimum wage to fifteen percent over the federal poverty threshold for a family of four ($24,600) and increases the minimum
wage automatically every four years to ensure that inflation does not erode its purchasing power. Under current poverty guidelines, this legislation would cause the national minimum wage to be increased from $7.25 to approximately $13.00.
