Support Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs in FY 2017

The continuing crisis in Flint, Michigan is a terrible reminder that lead poisoning remains a national health concern. Hundreds of thousands of children aged one to five years old in the U.S. have blood lead levels above 5 micrograms per deciliter, which can have significant long term consequences on development. At the same time, government efforts to prevent lead poisoning and promote healthy housing have been consistently underfunded for the last several years. For instance, there is no national surveillance system for lead poisoning.
