Peace Corps Volunteers represent what is best about America. They give years of their lives to help others whom they have never met, building goodwill across the globe for the United States. It is our responsibility to ensure they are properly cared for
both in the field and when they return home.

Support the Transform Student Debt to Home Equity Act

June 27, 2017

I invite you to become an original cosponsor of the Transform Student Debt to Home Equity Act of 2017 –a bill that enables graduates to transform their student debt into an opportunity to purchase and own a home. With an estimated $1.3 trillion student debt
owed to the federal government, plunging homeownership rates among young people, and 17.2 million habitable homes sitting vacant in the United States, our nation must find a way to address the student debt vs. housing conundrum. Luckily, there is a popular
lending instrument already in widespread use that could serve as a significant bridge to the future: the home mortgage. This common lending tool, overtime, has the power to transform student loan repayments into a financial instrument for building equity:
the home.

The United States has been at war in Afghanistan for nearly 16 years, and it is now the longest war in American history. Between Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, we have lost over 2,250 American service members, with another 22,200
wounded. Earlier this month, Sgt. Eric M Houck, Sgt. William M. Bays, and Cpl. Dillon C. Baldridge became the latest tragic casualties of this conflict.

We invite you to join us on a letter in support of funding for the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).  These two programs provide critical assistance to our older constituents, but
they would be effectively eliminated in the Trump Administration’s FY2018 budget.

H. Res. 43: Momentum is Building- Fix the Dysfunction in Congress

June 21, 2017

Momentum is building for the
Stay on Reschedule Resolution (H. Res 43). Just this week Rep. Dave Brat, another Virginian,
and myself were featured in our
local press for asking to forego August Recess to complete our work here in Washington. The American public has signaled time and time again that it is frustrated with Washington. For far too long, Congress has failed to fund the federal government in a
responsible, long-term manner, and I have consistently argued that Congress should return to doing business on time and end the current cycle of government by crisis as a result of repeated stop-gap budget measures.
