PREVENT THE IMPORT OF UNSAFE CHICKEN FROM CHINA

I write to encourage you to join us in sending a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking member of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittees calling for language in any final Fiscal Year 2017 Agriculture Appropriations Bill that ensures that Chinese-processed chicken is not included in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Nearly 329,000 people across the United States have signed a petition urging Congress to stop chicken from, or processed in, China from reaching our supermarkets and the meals we feed our school children. This provision was included, with bipartisan support, in the FY2016 Omnibus spending bill. The letter also encourages the Committees to expand upon this provision by preventing funds from being used to implement any rule that would allow poultry slaughtered in China to be exported to the United States.
