Support Full Funding for the Census Bureau

March 14, 2018

Please join us in requesting that the U.S. Census Bureau be funded at a level of at least $4.239 billion in fiscal year 2019. This amount is $438 million above the Administration’s FY2019 request of $3.801 billion for the Bureau and reflects the level stated
in the Department of Commerce’s revised FY19 cost estimate for the 2020 Census. The decennial census provides vital data for the nation and is used to apportion the seats of the U.S. House of Representatives, realign the boundaries of legislative districts
of each state, allocate billions of dollars in federal financial assistance, and provide social demographic, and economic data to guide policy decisions at each level of government. Adequate funding of the 2020 Census will help continue information technology
systems development and critical testing that will improve accuracy and reduce the lifecycle cost of the 2020 Census.

LAST CALL – SUPPORT SECOND CHANCE ACT FUNDING

March 14, 2018

In prisons and jails across the country, almost 2.2 million people are incarcerated —nearly one in every 200 U.S. residents.[1]  At least 95 percent of people incarcerated in state prisons will be released back
to their communities at some point, yet research suggests that as many as 40 percent will be reincarcerated within three years of their release. Helping individuals to access the services they need for reentry to rebuild their lives can help reduce recidivism,
strengthen families and communities and improve public safety.

Prevent Drastic Systemic Changes to SNAP

March 14, 2018

Please join us in urging the Agriculture Appropriations Committee to include language prohibiting funds from being used to implement the Trump Administration’s “American Harvest Box” proposal.  As you know, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program helped
more than 41 million people in FY2017 access fresh fruit, vegetables, proteins, and other healthy foods.  SNAP grants families the ability to purchase food items that are right for their families, ensuring that their specific nutritional needs are met.  Without
the benefits provided by SNAP, many low-income Americans would struggle to provide their families with food.
