Dear Colleague,

I invite you to become an original cosponsor of the Essential Pay for Essential Workers Act.

As most of us continue to follow the stay-at-home orders, there are still millions of Americans who are putting their lives on the line to continue the essential services that keep this country going. They include our doctors, nurses and first responders,
but they also include our postal workers, grocery cashiers, truck drivers, sanitation workers, and so many more. These men and women put themselves at risk with every shift, as they are more likely to come into contact with the virus. Along with our continuous
thanks, we need to provide back to those who are giving so much.

The Essential Pay for Essential Workers Act will require employers to provide a minimum of $15 an hour in so-called “essential pay” to workers on top of their usual pay during the coronavirus outbreak. The Essential Pay for Essential Workers Act will mean
that a worker in a covered industry previously paid $10 per hour would receive $25 per hour during the coronavirus outbreak. The bill uses the third version of the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Guidelines on Essential Critical Infrastructure
Workers classification of essential workers, encompassing sixteen separate infrastructure areas which include:

  • Healthcare
  • Food and agriculture
  • Energy
  • Water and wastewater
  • Transportation
  • Public works
  • Communication and information technology
  • Critical manufacturing
  • Hazardous materials
  • Shelter facilities and services
  • Law enforcement
  • Hygiene products

Overall, this legislation will do the right thing and fairly compensate those who are risking contracting the virus for the sake of our daily lives and safety. For more information on the legislation or if you would like to be an original cosponsor, please
contact Brad Korten (brad.korten@mail.house.gov | (202) 809-7530) in Rep. Watson Coleman’s office or fill out this link

.

Sincerely,
