Cosponsor bill providing $500 billion for state COVID-19 relief
H.R. 6592 – Coronavirus Relief for States Act
Please join us as a cosponsor of H.R. 6592, the Coronavirus Relief for States Act, to provide critical resources to states to help them deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This legislation will provide additional funding and flexibility for states, including the District of Columbia, U.S. Territories and Indian Tribes, to adequately protect and care for their residents and help begin the economic recovery from COVID-19. The
$500 billion in funding would be divided between each eligible entity based on population. The funding provides much-needed relief for states to cover the necessary expenditures incurred during the COVID-19 outbreak, replace revenue lost during the public
health emergency, or contribute to the economic recovery for their state, territory or tribe. The bill provides broad discretion to states to utilize the funding as needed in each community.
State governments are on the front lines of fighting COVID-19 and are facing increased budget pressure as the crisis continues. The federal government needs to ensure each state can adequately meet the needs of this crisis – both on the public health and
economic front. This legislation mirrors a request from the
National Governor’s Association and many individual governors for $500 billion in assistance in future COVID-19 relief packages. This funding would help prevent states from being forced to cut critical social, community, and educational services including
law enforcement, first responders, and teachers. These cuts could only
further hurt our economic recovery and our communities.
