America has a proud history of welcoming the most vulnerable, including refugees so as to leverage foreign policy and strengthen national and regional security—and together—continue to build the American dream. It is imperative that we not be derelict in our
duty; and thus, uphold the Refugee Act of 1980, and the amendments made by that Act, as a lifesaving solution critical to global humanitarian efforts that serves to—strengthen global security; advance the United States foreign policy goals and national security
interests; support countries that host hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of refugees; collaborate with and support the efforts of international community to support and resettle vulnerable populations; stabilize sensitive conflicts and regions around
the globe; and encourage other nations to contribute to this cause through humanitarian support, resettlement, and finding strategies to address existing conflict and prevent future conflict.
We must ensure that the Refugee Act of 1980 continues to save lives, promotes the general welfare and fulfills the true meaning of its purpose—upholding the rights and practices of self-governance and free speech regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or
