Support Whistleblowers and OSC Funding in FY 2021
This is a programmatic request. Deadline: Tuesday, March 17
Dear Colleague,
Join the Co-Chairs of the Whistleblower Protection Caucus in supporting federal government whistleblowers by signing our Fiscal Year 2021 programmatic letter requesting $31.5 million for the U.S. Office of Special Counsel.
The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) is an independent federal investigative and prosecutorial agency that is mandated to protect federal employees and applicants from prohibited personnel practices, especially reprisal for whistleblowing. Within the
past few years, OSC was able to identify wasteful spending at federal agencies in excess of $256 million. These cases highlight how appropriated funding to OSC provides a real return on investment.
In the last three years, OSC has received an average of 6,000 new cases per year, and about 35 percent of whistleblower cases come from Veterans Affairs employees. However, the agency’s 140 full-time employees have been under resourced and understaffed,
resulting in a current backlog of nearly 1,900 cases. Funding OSC at $31.5 million for Fiscal Year 2021 will provide the agency with enough resources to hire more full-time employees, reduce the case backlog, and recover more wasteful spending at federal agencies.
Please join us in identifying and preventing waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government by supporting OSC at $31.5 million.
The deadline to sign onto this letter is Tuesday, March 17 COB.
If you have any questions or would like to be added to this letter, please contact Steven Coyle in Rep. Kathleen Rice’s office (Steven.Coyle@mail.house.gov) or Rachel Marshall in Rep. Jackie Speier’s office (Rachel.Marshall@mail.house.gov).
Sincerely,
