Sending Office: Honorable Ted Lieu
As you know, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) provides an invaluable service for Members and staff. The dedicated nonpartisan analysts at CRS are highly trained not only in their areas of expertise, but also in briefing staff and fine-tuning analysis
to fit individual office needs. A true gem on Capitol Hill, CRS keeps Congress informed and directly contributes to smart and responsible policymaking.
In addition to briefings, CRS publishes hundreds of reports annually that – thanks to a provision in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 – are now available to the public free of charge. In an age of misinformation and partisan spin, allowing the
American people to access CRS reports is truly a public service.
In FY20, the Committee appropriated $120,495,000 for the Congressional Research Service. That is a small price to pay for the return on investment Congress receives.
Please join me in requesting robust funding for CRS in the FY21 Legislative Branch appropriations bill. If you are interested, please contact Michael Chernin in my office at Michael.Chernin@mail.house.gov or call 5-3976.
