Sending Office: Honorable Mark Takano
We would like to encourage you to join our efforts in expanding awareness and support for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community by joining the Congressional Deaf Caucus. According to the NIH, an estimated 15% of American adults aged 18 and over report some
trouble with hearing. Those who experience auditory issues face communicative challenges throughout their lifetime.
As Representatives of residential Deaf schools, we are pleased to relaunch the Congressional Deaf Caucus to educate Members of Congress and staff on important issues central to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. The Caucus is dedicated to helping bridge
the communication divide between Members of Congress and their Deaf and Hard of Hearing constituents, as well as empower these individuals by promoting equal access for all.
In partnership with Gallaudet University, the Congressional Deaf Caucus also promotes the expansion of a Congressional Deaf Internship program. It is our firm belief that Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons should have the same opportunities in the work environment
as any other. We invite Members of Congress to join the Congressional Deaf Caucus in a bipartisan effort to work towards that common goal.
If you would like to become a member of the Congressional Deaf Caucus, are interested in hosting a Deaf intern, or have any questions, please contact Whitley O’Neal in Rep. Takano’s office at
firstname.lastname@example.org (x52305) or Lizzie Messer in Rep. Rutherford’s office at
Thank you for your consideration.
