Cosponsor the Safeguarding Americans From Epidemics (SAFE) at Work Act of 2020
Dear Colleague:
I invite you to cosponsor
H.R. 6219, the Safeguarding Americans from Epidemics (SAFE) at Work Act of 2020. This bill temporarily creates tax incentives to encourage employers to allow telework arrangements, thereby protecting against the spread of the Coronavirus.
On January 31, Health and Human Services Secretary Azar declared a public health emergency for the United States to aid the nation’s healthcare community in responding to COVID-19.
While CDC has encouraged everyone to take part in helping respond to the public health threat to help reduce the spread, it is concerning that individuals can contract COVID-19 and be contagious without exhibiting symptoms, potentially for weeks. This could
lead to people showing up to work and infecting others without even knowing they were ill
The SAFE at Work Act of 2020 would help reduce the risk of community spread through a new telework tax credit for tax years 2020 and 2021 for employers who allow their employees to telework a minimum of 12 days per month. The tax credit
would be up to $1,200 per year for each qualifying employee, calculated as $100 per employee for each month they were a qualified teleworker.
Additionally, the bill would temporarily restore the ability for employees to deduct home office expenses for tax years 2020 and 2021.
This commonsense measure would help encourage employers to allow telework arrangements while our public health officials work to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the United States.
To cosponsor, please contact my Legislative Director, Gus Ashton, at

Sincerely,
Ross Spano
