Sending Office: Honorable Matt Cartwright
Please join me in sending the following letter to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos requesting that the requirement for standardized testing be cancelled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. As of March 19, 44 states have closed schools, affecting
at least 47.9 million students. Currently, states must submit applications to the Department of Education requesting a waiver of the requirement to conduct standardized testing. When schools resume, efforts should be focused on restoring instruction and addressing
the immediate needs of students rather than addressing requirements to hold standardized tests. To reduce the burden on students, educators, and schools, the Department of Education should waive the standardized testing requirement nationally.
