Dear Colleague:
Please join me in urging the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science to include $505.2 million in funding for NASA’s Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) mission.
The highest ranked astrophysics decadal priority in the last National Academy of Sciences survey in 2010 was WFIRST (Wide Field InfraRed Survey Telescope) – a program that has been threatened elimination in the past three years. As you may know, WFIRST’s
mission to better study dark energy, exoplanets, and galactic astrophysics will allow astronomers to answer some of the most high-priority scientific questions facing humanity, related to the origin and evolution of the universe, and the potential for life
on planets around other stars.
WFIRST is a key piece in maintaining the nation’s leadership in space. To join this letter or for any additional information, please contact Grace Rubinger at
grace.rubinger@mail.house.gov or 202-225-4376.
Sincerely,
Don Beyer
