Dear Colleague,

I write to request your co-sponsorship of my bill, the Helping Homeless Veterans Act (H.R. 2223).

To help fight homelessness among veterans and to help the VA achieve its goal of ending veterans’ homelessness, I have introduced the Helping Homeless Veterans Act. This legislation would reauthorize and make permanent vital programs to help keep our veterans
off the streets. These programs provide transitional housing, employment assistance, supportive services, and much more to our nation’s veterans.

There is no reason to allow authorization of these programs to lapse, so instead of requiring annual renewals, the Helping Homeless Veterans Act makes permanent the following programs:

The Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) program;

Acquired Property Sales for Homeless Veterans program;

The Therapeutic Transitional Housing component to the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program;

The Incarcerated Veterans Transition program;

The Homeless Veterans Reintegration program;

The Grant and Per Diem Program for Homeless Veterans with Special Needs program; and

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families program

Each of these important veterans’ programs is critical to eliminating veterans’ homelessness and meeting the VA’s goal of ending veterans’ homelessness.

I am profoundly grateful for the service and sacrifice made by all of our nation’s veterans.  I urge you to join me in the fight to eradicate veterans’ homelessness by cosponsoring this legislation.
