Congressional What Works Caucus:

Funding Evidence-Based Programs

Wednesday, February 26, 2020
10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Room 2325 Rayburn House Office Building

Each year, the Federal Government spends about $440 billion on programs that support vulnerable populations and address some of our nation’s biggest challenges in education, juvenile justice, national service, and public health. Policymakers have increasingly
focused on ways to direct this large number of federal resources to evidence-based solutions that get better results faster and at lower costs. The annual budget and appropriations processes offer congressional decision-makers the opportunity to ensure that
federal agencies funnel resources toward evidence-based interventions.

Join Rep. Ben McAdams (D-UT) and Rep. Jackie Walorksi (R-IN), co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional What Works Caucus, and a panel of early childhood literacy, higher education, and opioid treatment
leaders for a thoughtful conversation about how Congress can leverage the budget and appropriations processes to fund what works.

Panel: How Congress Is Partnering with Federal Agencies to Support the Building and Use of Evidence and Data

  • Shawn McMillen, Executive Director, First Step House (UT)
  • Cory Classman-Ryan, Vice President for Student Success, Ivy Tech (IN)
  • Sadie O’Connor, Managing Director, Minnesota Reading Corps
  • Shaena Fazal, Chief of Public Policy, Advocacy and External Communications, Youth Advocates Program
  • Moderator, Kate Tromble, Results for America

Please RSVP
by Monday, February 24, 2020.
