Diseases Don’t Respect Borders – Cosponsor the Bipartisan Global Health Security Act

February 28, 2020

The new coronavirus out of Wuhan, China is a crisis in its own right. With more than 83,000 infected in more than two dozen countries and more than 2,800 fatalities so far, officials expect the already grave situation to worsen. But this crisis is also a
warning. We are only one new or mutated disease away from a global health catastrophe. The United States must lead the way in preparing the world for such an outbreak.
That is why we introduced the bipartisan Global Health Security Act (H.R. 2166) in order to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to promoting global health security.

Appropriations: Support Transit-Oriented Development

February 28, 2020

As you consider appropriations priorities for FY21, we urge you to support the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning. The Pilot Program for TOD Planning provides grants for the planning, preparation,
or design of projects. Eligible applicants have an associated new fixed guideway or core capacity improvement project. These Planning grants are a critical tool for maximizing the value of the large federal investment that comes with the awarding of a Capital
Investment Grant. Additionally, the grants help localities intelligently conduct land use planning while the new transit corridor is being constructed or expanded. The utilization and expansion of transit-oriented development is critical to revitalizing our
cities, reducing pollution and congestion, and enhancing economic opportunity.
