Please support urban agriculture by co-leading the Urban Agriculture Healthy Food and Entrepreneur Act (UAHFE). The goals of the UAHFE are: (1) empower local communities, (2) revitalize urban cores, (3) address food insecurity, and (4) encourage economic
development with agriculture as the pathway.
The legislation focuses on land and capital. It establishes the Urban Agriculture Conservation Easement Program (UACEP), which would increase the availability of land in urban communities for urban agriculture production and related social enterprises.
It also establishes the Urban Agriculture Microentrepreneur Assistance Program (UAMAP), which would provide loans and grants to support entrepreneurs in the development and ongoing success of urban agriculture small businesses.
Additionally, the legislation encourages the production and purchase of locally grown and raised foods by extending the authority for the Community Food Project Grant Program at $15 million annually and increases funding for the Farm to Schools Program from
$5 million to $15 million.
The UAHFE draws on the experience of practitioners and local community needs from across the country, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Hawaii, and other states. The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, Union
of Concerned Scientists, Good Food For All, Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group, Just Food, and WhyHunger support this legislation.
If you have any questions or would like to cosponsor this important legislation, please contact us at Dave.Chun@mail.house.gov with Rep. Gabbard, Chris.Goldson@mail.house.gov with
Rep. Moore, or Nishith.Pandya@mail.house.gov with Rep. Rush.
