We invite you to join us in supporting school cafeteria workers, and in ensuring that required trainings occur during work hours and are paid if they take place after work hours. We invite you to cosponsor H.R. 2651, the “Improving Training for School Food
Service Workers Act”.
The “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010” created new professional standards for school food service workers in order to improve the health and safety of the children they serve. Unfortunately, some workers are forced to receive this training during their
off-hours and others are not given adequate notice ahead of required trainings. That is why we have introduced H.R. 2651 which would require any such training to occur during regular work hours, and to be paid if it occurs after hours. It also would require
adequate notice be provided to workers so that they can plan accordingly if the training takes place after work hours.
Professional trainings for school food service workers is important, but so is holding such trainings during times when they are actually on – or near – the job. We thank you for your consideration of this worthy legislation, and we would be happy to answer
any questions you may have. Your staff may contact Leslie Zelenko with Rep. Pocan at Leslie.Zelenko@mail.house.gov or Tristan Southard in Rep. Katko’s office at Tristan.Southard@mail.house.gov.
