Dear Colleague:

We invite you to join Representatives Lois Frankel and Barbara Lee as a cosponsor of a resolution recognizing 25 years since the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, Egypt and reaffirming its goals, including comprehensive
sexual and reproductive health and rights.

From November 12-14, 2019, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency, convened a high-level conference to advance the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action, including advancing the ideal that reproductive
health and gender equality are critical to global sustainable development.

As the largest funder of global health, the United States sets an example to other countries and has a responsibility to encourage the goals of ICPD. Unfortunately, the Trump Administration has pursued policies that run counter to these objectives, and are
deeply harmful to women’s health. These policies include:

  • Reinstating and expanding the Mexico City Policy, also known as the Global Gag Rule
  • Suspending funding for UNFPA
  • Proposing to eliminate or drastically cut international family planning funding
  • Deleting the reproductive rights section from the State Department’s annual human rights report

We hope that you will join us in calling on the United States Government to recommit to its recognition of reproductive rights as human rights and to champion the right to bodily autonomy and self-determination for all. For more information or to cosponsor,
please contact Daniel Bleiberg with Rep. Frankel at Daniel.Bleiberg@mail.house.gov or 5-9890.

Sincerely,

LOIS FRANKEL                               BARBARA LEE
