Cosponsor H.R. 3757
Please join me by cosponsoring H.R. 3757, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 1921 change in design from the Morgan Silver Dollar to the iconic Peace Silver Dollar following World War I (WWI).The Peace dollar is one of the most recognized
and coveted dollar coins ever produced by the mint. They were minted in the years 1921-1928 and again from 1934-1935. The Peace dollar is a true piece of American history and the last dollar coin containing silver that was struck for circulation.
The bill would require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint no more than 500,000 one dollar coins in commemoration of the centennial of the Morgan Dollar and the Peace Dollar with 40% of the surcharges going to the National WWI Museum in Kansas City, 40%
will go to the American Numismatic Association, and 20% will go to the Nevada State Museum (formerly a U.S. Mint facility) in Carson City, Nevada.
The shift of the Morgan Silver Dollar to the Peace Silver Dollar in 1921 was emblematic of the immense sacrifices made by the millions of Americans who served in WWI and the overpowering hope that the ensuing peace would be eternal. As we continue to search
for that everlasting peace, it’s important that we remember this moment in history and honor those who gave their lives in the fight for freedom.
