Please join us and urban agriculturists throughout the nation by becoming an original cosponsor of the Urban Agriculture Healthy Food and Entrepreneur Act (UAHFE). Urban agriculture will help us address some of the most pressing food security, nutritional,
and public health issues faced by urban communities while providing business and job opportunities to create local jobs. Urban agriculture has the additional benefit of helping beautify neighborhoods as well as environmentally restoring our urban areas with
The legislation focuses on two major priorities land and capital. To address these priorities, the UACEP establishes two programs: Urban Agriculture Conservation Easement Program (UACEP) and Urban Agriculture Microentrepreneur Assistance Program (UAMAP).
The UACEP would increase the availability of land in urban communities for urban agriculture production and related social enterprises while the UAMAP would provide loans and grants to support entrepreneurs in the development and ongoing success of urban agriculture
The bill also encourages production and purchase of locally grown, raised, and caught food, extends the authority for the Community Food Project Grant Program at $15 million annually, and increases funding for the Farm to Schools Program from $5 million
to $15 million.
The UAHFE draws on the experience of practitioners and local community needs from across the country, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Hawaii, and other states. The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, Union
of Concerned Scientists, Good Food For All, Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group, and Just Food all support this legislation.
If you have any questions or would like to cosponsor this important legislation, please contact Dave.Chun@mail.house.gov.
