Congressional Pacific Islands Caucus: October 16th Lunch Briefing on Region Overview, Challenges and Opportunities by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

12:00pm—1:00pm

2359 Rayburn

Hawai‘i-themed food will be provided

Speaker:

Major General Suzanne Vares-Lum

Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command

Dear Colleague:

We recently formed the Congressional Pacific Islands Caucus to highlight critical issues relating to the twenty-four Pacific Island jurisdictions which, together with their exclusive economic zones, encompass an area larger than Russia and China combined.
We believe that our future will largely be determined in the Indo-Pacific and that these islands play an integral role. If you have not already done so, we welcome your joining and contributing your interests to the Caucus.

Please join the Caucus next Wednesday, October 16, at noon for a lunch presentation by Major General Suzanne Vares-Lum of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. USINDOPACOM, headquartered in Hawai’i, is the largest and oldest of our unified combatant commands, with
375,000 personnel in an AOR stretching from the West Coast of the U.S. to the west coast of India and encompassing the entire Pacific. USINDOPACOM is deeply involved throughout the Pacific Islands on a number of levels and Major General Vares-Lum, formerly
interim Deputy Commander and currently Mobilization Assistant, will provide an overview of the region and USINDOPACOM’s perspectives.

This briefing is open to Members and permanent staff only with IDs. Permanent staff are kindly requested to RSVP to provide an accurate head count for lunch provided. Please RSVP here:
