Dear Colleague:
As debate continues over possible passage in Congress of a new NAFTA, questions on Mexico’s labor reforms remain of paramount importance. We would like to invite you and your staff to a briefing about the recently enacted laws and ongoing budget process
in Mexico. Many stakeholders, including Members of Congress, have highlighted the importance of robust reform and funding to implement these new safeguards for the rights of workers in Mexico. However, deficiencies in the proposed budget for the Ministry of
Labor and Social Welfare in the Mexican legislature has raised questions about the need for more investments across the board.
Our briefing comes on the heels of a recent congressional trip to Mexico City where President Lopez Obrador laid out his budget priorities. The Mexican President followed up on the meeting with a
letter to Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal that attempts to provide assurances as a new NAFTA vote nears.
Please join us on October 30 from 2:30pm to 4:00pm to learn more about Mexico’s labor reforms. You will hear from stakeholders involved in the Mexican labor reform process and a first-hand account of the meeting with President Lopez Obrador.
