The House What Works Caucus invites you to a briefing:
WHAT WORKS IN POLICYMAKING
October 16, 2019
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Please join Representatives Jackie Walorski (IN-2) and Ben McAdams (UT-4) for a briefing to introduce the What Works Caucus. The recently launched bipartisan What Works Caucus was formed to develop and promote results-driven, evidence-based legislation
and partnerships that addresses our nation’s biggest challenges. It will also spotlight data-driven local, state, and federal efforts, as well as the work of private and nonprofit partners, that are helping improve results for people around the country.
A 2019 poll conducted by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago found that about 9 out of 10 Americans think policymakers should seek the best evidence when making decisions. However, only 8 percent believe that evidence currently
drives policymakers’ decisions.
At this briefing, experts will discuss how Impact Investing can deploy investment capital for intentional and measurable results, and how Pay for Success programs are helping state and local governments deliver social programs that show results and save
taxpayer dollars. In addition, the roundtable will discuss the standards of evidence that can support rigorous evaluation of program results and outcomes, and recent legislation that supports these objectives.
