Co-sponsor bipartisan resolution expressing condolences and support for the people of the Bahamas
Deadline: Monday, September 16
Original Cosponsors: Diaz-Balart, Engel, Mucarsel-Powell, Sires, Wasserman Schultz, Clarke, Waters, Rooney
I invite you to become an original co-sponsor of my bipartisan resolution expressing condolences and long-term support for the people of the Bahamas in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, which devastated the islands of the Bahamas.
As you know, on September 1, 2019, Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 storm, struck the Bahamas. The hurricane was reported as reaching speeds up to 180 miles per hour with wind gusts of up to
200 miles per hour. As of September 10, at least 50 people on the islands have been killed and thousands have been reported missing and displaced from their homes. The human toll from this tragedy is truly heartbreaking.
The international Federation of the Red Cross estimated that 45 percent of homes on Grand Bahama and the Abacos island have been destroyed.
The Bahamas will require a strong commitment by the United States and the international community. Please join me in supporting the people of the Bahamas and encouraging the executive branch to continue to provide and coordinate international humanitarian
assistance to affected communities.
For any questions or to join as an original cosponsor, please contact Kevin Figueroa in my office at
firstname.lastname@example.org or at 5-2661.
