Sending Office: Honorable Al Green
We invite you to become a cosponsor of a resolution calling for increased funding for security for Members of Congress.
Threats of death and violence have led to actual violence against Members in the past. In the 2011 Tucson shooting, Representative Gabrielle Giffords sustained critical injuries and her Congressional aide, Gabe Zimmerman, was murdered. In 2017, a gunman
opened fire on several Members of Congress, congressional staff, United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers, and members of the public during a practice for the annual Congressional Baseball game.
Just a few weeks ago, Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund testified before the House Administration Committee that credible threats to Members of Congress were rapidly increasing amid growing tensions in the country. This year, 2,502 threat assessment cases
have already been opened and that number is expected to grow.
We must take serious measures to ensure the safety and security of all who serve amid heighted violence and threats of imminent harm. Our resolution will require an increase in the Members’ Representational Allowance (MRA) of the House of Representatives
by an amount necessary to ensure that we are able to take adequate measures to protect ourselves from increasing threats so that we may continue to serve and fight for our great nation.
To sign on to our resolution, please fill out this

Schweikert’s office with any questions.
