Dear Colleague,

We invite you to join us as a cosponsor of our resolution recognizing Black Women’s Equal Pay Day on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019, as well as the significance of equal pay and the disparity between wages paid to men and Black women.

According to Census Bureau data, Black women working full-time are paid 61 cents for every dollar paid to men. As a result of this discrepancy, Black Women’s Equal Pay Day— which marks the day that symbolizes how long into 2019 Black women must work to make
what men were paid in 2018— does not occur until August 22, 2019. This disparity annually costs Black women $21,698 on average, equaling $946,120 over the course of a 40-year career.

Unfortunately, this trend is accelerating. The National Women’s Law Center found that the wage gap widened for women of color. Given that more than 80% of Black mothers and women are the breadwinners for their families, this situation is entirely unacceptable.
We encourage you to join usincosponsoring this resolution and affirming our collective commitment to narrowing the wage gap and creating an economy that works for all Americans.

For questions, or to become a cosponsor of this resolution, please email with Representative Adams office. The deadline for original co-sponsorship is COB Thursday,
August 22, 2019
. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
