        Request for Cosponsor(s)

Dear Colleague,

Please join us in co-sponsoring a bipartisan resolution Supporting the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and its Sixth Replenishment. This legislation reaffirms America’s commitment to fighting some of the most devastating diseases
the world has known: AIDS, TB and malaria. It also calls on the US to maintain its historic contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The Global Fund has contributed to incredible achievements in the fight against these terrible diseases.  It has helped reduce by half the number of AIDS-related deaths worldwide since 2005, contributed to a 37-percent decline in TB deaths from 2000 to 2016,
and facilitated a 60-percent decline in the number of malaria deaths since 2000.

U.S. leadership in these efforts has been critical to their success. Our contributions have not only funded life-saving programs, but also leveraged billions in additional investments from other donors and recipient states. Expecting the U.S. to match their
increases, the United Kingdom and Japan have already pledged additional funds to the Global Fund for the next two-year funding cycle. Recipient countries are providing 41% more funding for the upcoming cycle than they did in the last one, and that portion
is due to increase by an additional 7% for the following two-year period. It is critical that the U.S. maintain our historic levels of support for the Global Fund in the face of these proposed cuts.

Going forward, the Global Fund’s success continues to hinge on our involvement. We must maintain our longstanding commitment to the Global Fund – a commitment to saving lives, averting new cases, and increasing the ability of people around the world to withstand
life-threatening but preventable diseases.
