Sending Office: Honorable Elissa Slotkin
Cosponsor the Real-Time Benefits Act
I am enthusiastically inviting you to cosponsor my bipartisan Real-Time Benefits Act of 2019, HR 3415, to help seniors pay less for prescription drugs. Nearly 1 in 5 Americans report that they have not filled a prescription for a medication because it was
too expensive. That’s simply unacceptable. You know it. I know it.
The Real-Time Benefits Act would help seniors pay less for their prescriptions by providing patients and doctors with real-time information about how much a prescription will cost a patient, while still in the doctor’s office. This bill would provide doctors
and patients information about the out-of-pocket cost of prescription drugs, as well as the price the patient will pay at a variety of pharmacies. This information enables doctors to prescribe a cheaper prescription drug – when doing so is medically appropriate
– and enables patients to be informed in deciding where to fill their prescription.
Specifically, the Real-Time Benefits Act would require Medicare Part D prescription plan providers to upload prescription plan information into a “real-time benefit tool” that utilizes electronic health records to inform health care providers about coverage
and benefit information, cost-sharing requirements, cost-sharing requirements for cheaper clinically appropriate alternatives, and the cost at a variety of pharmacies before they write a prescription.
If you have any questions or would like to cosponsor this bill, please contact Francesca Caal Skonos with Representative Slotkin at
