Dear Colleague,

We urge you to cosponsor the Supporting Family Caregivers Act to help meet the unique needs of America’s caregivers.

Americans across the country rely on family caregivers, whose contributions range from bathing and dressing their loved ones, to coordinating care across multiple health care providers, to managing the payment of household and medical bills, and more. Each
year, this adds up to roughly $470 billion in unpaid care provided by 40 million family caregivers.

The assistance family caregivers provide allows Americans to remain at home and delay or avoid altogether expensive hospitalizations or nursing home care. As such, it is critical that caregivers have supports, like counseling and respite, which can help
them navigate the significant challenges they face and get the temporary rest they need so that they can succeed as caregivers. While such supports exist through the National Family Caregiver Support Program, we have the opportunity to further enhance the
program by better targeting support services to fit the unique circumstances of each family.

That is where the Supporting Family Caregivers Act comes in.

This bill encourages the use of assessments to identify caregivers’ individual needs and challenges, thereby allowing services to be targeted to each person more effectively and efficiently. Ensuring caregivers have the specific supports they need will help
protect their personal health and wellbeing so that they might continue to assist their loved ones and ensure the best possible outcomes for those loved ones.

We hope you will support a more person- and family-centered approach to care by cosponsoring the
Supporting Family Caregivers Act. If you have any questions or would like to be added as a cosponsor, please contact Catherine Rowland (Levin) at
Catherine.Rowland@mail.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Andy Levin
