        Request for Cosponsor(s)

Become an Original Co-sponsor of the CHANGE Act

Correcting Hurtful and Alienating Names in Government Expression (CHANGE) Act

Deadline to Become an Original Co-Sponsor: Monday, July 15 COB

Current Co-Sponsors: Sylvia Garcia, Velazquez, Vargas, Grijalva, and Gallego

Please join me in eliminating the use of the terms “alien” and “illegal alien” from the Immigration and Nationality Act and replacing it with the respective terms “foreign national” and “undocumented foreign national.” In the midst of our current cultural
dynamics, this bill is integral to creating a more welcoming and inclusive environment for incoming and current immigrants living in the United States.

America at its core is a nation of immigrants, and throughout the nation’s history, immigrants from around the globe have kept our workforce vibrant, our businesses on the cutting edge, and helped us build the greatest economic engine in the world. It is
only right that we respect their place in our history by ensuring that our government documents and legal code respects their place in society as well.

I urge my colleagues to join me in correcting this language in our legal code.
To sign on as an original cosponsor please contact Kaitlyn Montan (kaitlyn.montan@mail.house.gov)
in my office by COB on Monday, July 15th.

Sincerely,

Joaquin Castro
