Dear Colleague:

Since coming into office, the Trump Administration has attempted to curtail the government’s decades-long support for medical research that relies on fetal tissue. Last week, President Trump and Secretary Azar announced an immediate end to all NIH fetal
tissue research and created new arbitrary barriers to future NIH grants for this critical research.

This policy change threatens important life-saving research currently occurring, including research on diseases in infants and children, a cure for HIV/AIDs, and treatments for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. We know the importance of fetal tissue research,
and its role in developing the major scientific advances of polio, measles and rubella vaccines.

Today’s amendment will ensure that the President’s new policy blocking fetal tissue research does not impede medical discoveries that could advance new treatments to save the lives of infants, people suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other debilitating
diseases.

I urge you to SUPPORT this important amendment.

Sincerely,

Mark Pocan

Member of Congress
