Sending Office: Honorable Bill Pascrell, Jr.
Request for Cosponsor(s)
As co-chairs of the House Law Enforcement Caucus, we ask you to join us in supporting law enforcement by cosponsoring
H.R. 1865, the National Law Enforcement Museum Commemorative Coin Act. H.R. 1865 directs the U.S. Treasury to mint a coin in 2021 in commemoration of the opening of the National
Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, DC. The Museum, which was authorized by an act of Congress in 2000 (Public Law 106-492), formally opened on October 13, 2018 in Washington, DC’s Judiciary Square – across the street from the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
The proceeds from the sale of the commemorative coins will go to the non-profit National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) for educational and outreach programs and exhibits at the Museum.
This bill comes with no cost to the taxpayer — all funding will come from the sale of the coins to private citizens. No funds will be distributed to NLEOMF until after the U.S. Treasury has recouped all of its costs for designing and minting the coins.
As you know, our nation’s law enforcement officers put their uniforms on and go to work every day, not knowing if they will make it home after their shift. They selflessly protect us while asking nothing in return. That is why this Museum is so important
– to serve as a reminder of the sacrifice our law enforcement officers make. This Museum will also play the vital role of educating the public on the work our nation’s law enforcement officers, as well as promoting the safety of our men and women in uniform.
H.R. 1865 will provide a much needed future stream of private funding for the Museum to ensure that it is able to maintain a robust and diverse level of programming. Cosponsoring this legislation – which, again, will not cost a cent of taxpayer dollars
– is a fitting way to show your support for law enforcement.
Should you want to cosponsor H.R. 1865 or need more information, please contact Christopher Hadad with Congressman Pascrell at Christopher.Hadad@mail.house.gov or Katie Heffernan at with Congressman Rutherford at firstname.lastname@example.org.
