Please Join the Media Diversity Congressional Brain Trust

Dear Colleague:

Please join me as a member of the Media Diversity Congressional Brain Trust – a platform to identify the challenges to media diversity and propose recommendations for implementable solutions and best practices to overcoming these challenges.

The American media industry continues to struggle with both racial and gender diversity—a critical shortcoming for an industry which accounts for almost twenty percent of the U.S. GDP and influences our culture, our future, and our understanding of ourselves
as a society. These shortcomings are stark when you consider that people of color are a large and growing segment of the U.S. population. More troubling, the few existing multicultural media stakeholders are facing grave threats to their survival. As a result,
fifty years after the Kerner Commission Report called for increased media diversity, America is facing a diversity crisis with a profound economic and social cost.

However, while troubling, these challenges are surmountable. The Media Diversity Congressional Brain Trust, a Congressional Member Organization, seeks to address this crisis and expand opportunity throughout the media industry by bringing together Members
of Congress, media industry leaders and multicultural media stakeholders. Together, they will identify obstacles to media diversity and offer viable, creative solutions to increase diversity in our new media landscape.

For more information or to join the Media Diversity Congressional Brain Trust, please contact Wendy Anderson, my Chief of Staff at
Wendy.Anderson@mail.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Val B. Demings

Member of Congress
